IPTV EPG Time Shift: How to Correct Guide Times

If every programme is listed one or more hours early or late, the schedule may be accurate but interpreted with the wrong time zone or an extra manual offset. Find where the shift begins before changing it.

Measure the offset before changing settings

Compare the guide with a reliable schedule for one known channel and note the exact difference. Check a second channel from the same source. A consistent one-hour or two-hour gap suggests a time-zone or daylight-saving issue; random differences suggest incorrect programme data or channel mapping.

Write down the current player offset so you can reverse the change. Stacking adjustments while testing makes the final cause difficult to identify.

Check the device clock and time zone

Set date, time, and time zone to automatic when the device supports it, then confirm the displayed local time. Restart the player after correcting the clock because some apps calculate programme positions when they load the guide database.

A device can show the right clock with the wrong underlying time zone if a manual time was entered. Automatic network time is generally the safer baseline.

Understand XMLTV offsets and daylight saving

XMLTV programme timestamps can include their own UTC offset. A well-behaved player converts that timestamp to the device time zone. If the source has the wrong offset or omits necessary context, the provider may need to correct the feed.

Daylight-saving transitions are a common clue. If a fixed offset solves the guide only for part of the year, the configuration is compensating for a source or time-zone problem rather than resolving it.

Apply an EPG shift only when needed

Use the player EPG offset when the device time is correct and the source remains consistently shifted. Apply the smallest exact correction, refresh the guide if required, and compare the same known programmes again.

Some players offer a global shift and a per-source or per-channel shift. Prefer the narrowest setting that fixes the affected data without moving correct listings from another source.

When an offset is not the solution

Do not use a time shift when only one channel shows the wrong programme, when the error changes during the day, or when the listings belong to a different regional feed. Those symptoms point to source data or channel mapping, not time conversion.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is my EPG one hour behind?

The device time zone, daylight-saving handling, XMLTV timestamp, or a manual player offset may be wrong. Check them in that order.

What EPG time shift should I use?

There is no universal value. Measure the consistent difference after confirming the device time, then apply only that correction to the affected source.

Can daylight saving break EPG times?

It can expose a source or device configured with a fixed offset. Accurate time-zone data should adjust automatically when daylight-saving rules change.
